How to convert VCD DAT files to xivd or other formats.

For those interested in backing up your VCDs into xivd or something similar but keeps getting a out of sync audio track video file, you have come to the right place.

After numerous trying and testing, i finally found the root cause of the problem. The issue arises when a DAT file copied directly from the VCDs are used directly for conversion. The end result is a out of sync output file. Whatever video container(example: mkv, xvid etc) that you choose to convert to will not resolve the out of sync output file.

But if the DAT file is stripped of its “VCD” component, you will be able to get the correct mpeg-1(VCD) file that will convert correctly.

Here’s how you can do it.

Download VCDGear from here or here(download password is : bartman88.blogspot.com).

Next, unzip the zip file into a folder of your choice and start “vcdgear.exe”. Btw, installation is not required for VCDGear. You can use it without installation.

Click on “Load” to load the file that you want to “strip” . You will next be prompted to indicate a location to save the file. Once this is done, just on “start” and let it do its thing.

Click on the above screen shot to see a larger version.

That’s it. Good riddance out-of-sync problem.

Next step, pick your favorite video converter and away you go..

Marina Bay Sands put up a Lights and Water show and i managed to catch one of the shows. Luckily the weather was okay and show was great. Its a little like the show at Sentosa using lights and water. Here’s a few shots a managed to capture. Check it out.

Sometime ago i created a simple spreadsheet to simplify the calculation of the effect of foreign currency exchange when trading with foreign stocks.

It has been awhile since i use this spreadsheet and i had kind of forgot how to use it. In the process of trying to recall how to use the spreadsheet, i found that it needs some changes to make the spreadsheet easier to understand.

Haven’t being updating my pictures for some time, it’s not because i have stopped shooting. I’ve been bitten by the lazybug. :) Okay, enough of the excuses. Here’s a few test shots that i took way back in April 2010 at the HortPark.

CountDown to 2010 at Marina Bay.

To get these shots, we tracked to a unique location to capture the year end Countdown fireworks.

So much walking just to reach the location. It was worth it. No need to camp out early for hours for a good spot. No crowds. And the best part is the windy and cool breeze and the relax atmosphere. Great spot. Here are some of the shots.
