Using a CF to IDE Adapter to create a SSD(Solid State Disk) Part 3

Here is a screen capture of the Benchmark speed test i did on the CF card that i used for this SSD. From the Benchmark test, you get to see the speed at which these CF card will operate. The CF that i am using is a Kingston 8GB Elite Pro x133. It is suppose to be able to clock a max speed of 20 MB/s.

The program that i used for this test is HD Tune 2.55. You can download and try it out yourself. Click here to download.

In the first test i used a typical USB 2.0 CF card reader while the second test the CF card is connected to the IDE of a laptop through the CF to IDE adapter.

Here's are the test results.

As you can see from the results of the test using a typical USB CF card reader, the reading is relatively close to the rated 20Mb/s.

With the CF card connected directly to the IDE, the reading seems to be fluctuate wildly. I am not too sure what is the actually cause. But i suspect it might be due to some caching of data that cause the spikes in the test results.

Overall, 20Mb/s access speed is not fast enough for typical use(in windows XP). I would recommend the use of a faster CF card(if you are financial able to) unless you are able to endure the slow access speed. Anything slower than 20Mb/s, i would suggest you save the trouble of doing it :)
