Will the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro USB sound card run on Windows Server 2012 R2 OS?
Hmmm.....I am curious as well to find out if it will work on the Server Win2012 R2 OS. I did a blog post on getting it running on Windows Server 2008/R2 in the past and I have been using this sound card ever since on the server OS. You can refer to this link to that previous post and recently, someone has asked about this in that same post.
So, what the heck, let’s give it a try. But first, I got to get my hands on a server with Win2012 R2 OS pre-installed. After looking around, I managed to locate a HP ProLiant DL380Gen8 server to test it on.
It's time to put it to the test:
The moment I plug the Sounds Blaster into the USB port, the OS immediate install the generic USB sound driver.
Looking at the Device Manager, it shows that the Sound Blaster Sound card is correctly detected.
Here’s a list of the generic driver file details.
That was easy.
Next step, whip out the old trusty installation driver CD and give it a go.
Well, what do you know, it started up without much hassle
Here’s a list of items that I would normally select to install.
Next, you will need to reboot the computer in order for the driver to take effect.
After rebooting, this is what I got:
The driver have been successfully installed.
I started up the Creative Entertainment Console and played a few mp3 songs using the Windows Media Player and it is working great.
So, if you are interested to get one to run on your Windows 2012 R2 server box, you can consider this.
