Using the Creative Sound Blaster E1 (USB Sound card) on a Windows server 2012 r2 server.

The Sound Blaster E1 is both a portable headphone amplifier and a USB sound card contained in one small handy device.

If you are thinking of getting the sound blaster E1 or you already have a sound blaster E1 and are thinking of getting another USB sound card for server, read on……

I have done a post on this same Sound Blaster E1 USB sound card running on Windows Server 2008 R2 in the past (you can check it out here: http://bartman88.blogspot.com/2014/09/sound-blaster-e1-sb1600-usb-hd-audio.html) In this post, I am going to see if it will work on the Windows Server 2012 R2 OS.

Here we go:

Remember to switch ON the E1 for it to work as a USB sound card.

Upon inserting the USB cable into the E1, the OS will detect the device and it will start installing the generic drivers for it. It you are quick enough, you should be able to find a minimized windows of the device setup while the installation is in progress.

After the driver installation has completed, you should be able to find the E1 in the device manager.

Here’s a closer look at the generic driver properties.

The next step is to download the driver/software from the Sound Blaster Support website.
For this installation, the Windows 8 drivers are used.
The filename of the driver is “SBE_PCDRV_L9_1_00_12.exe”. Here is download link to the driver: http://support.creative.com/downloads/download.aspx?nDownloadId=13150

After the driver/software have been successfully downloaded, it’s time to install it.

Just click next to proceed…..unless you want to have the driver/software installed in another location.

You can choose either “Complete” or Custom. In this installation, I have chosen to go with the Complete selection.

Click on “Finish” the complete the installation.

It’s good that you are able to restart the server. But if for some reason you are not able to do so, it is fine too. The E1 will be able to work correctly with the newly installed drivers.

You can check the driver properties again in Device Manager to see if everything is detect and working properly.

Everything looks good.

Time to play some music…

You can launch the newly installed SBX Pro Studio and start tweaking the audio controls for a better listening experience.

One last thing to note, the status LED on the E1 will keep blinking (white color) continuously when it is connected, even when it is not in used. If the E1 is not connected to the USB of a computer or if an OS is not present, the status LED will remain continuously on.

If you are interested to get one for yourself, just click on the image below to check out the current pricing on Amazon.
